Very low zinc levels can lead to male hypogonadism, a condition where the body does not produce enough Testosterone which leads to a full range of masculine health problems such as;

  • Brain fog and fatigue
  • Loss of muscle strength
  • Weak and brittle bones

A mild zinc deficiency can reduce the number of androgen binding sites and the unbound testosterone in the blood stream. Once the unbound testosterone join the blood stream, they are converted to estrogen in the liver. On the other hand, the number of estrogen receptors also increases which can be a dreadful news.

A person who drinks plenty of water, lifts heavy weights and has regular sex has more chances to become zinc deficient. It is better that they eat zinc rich foods every day and supplements that have zinc.

Research on benefits of Zinc

The relationship between Zinc, reproductive health and testosterone have to be established through many studies.

A study performed in 1996 found that young men who had an average level of testosterone avoided getting any zinc in their diet for five consecutive months, experienced a drastic drop in their testosterone by more than 50 percent. On the other hand, a set of older men who had a comparatively lower level of testosterone were given zinc gluconate whose testosterone level doubled in the given time.

A study was performed on a group of 10 male wrestlers who were given 3 mg Zinc sulfate every day for four weeks. Their hormone level was tested both when at rest and when doing the exhausting workout. Researchers had found zinc to be significantly tied to higher testosterone levels both when the subjects were resting and exhausted exercise and also suggested that Zinc can be a physical performance booster.

Zinc as a Testosterone Booster – Is it effective?

Low Zinc level is an entirely reversible with the help of supplementation, which is why every best testosterone booster supplement has Zinc in some form. Research done on both human and animals has found Zinc to be a testosterone booster.

If you happen to have low zinc, it is better to take high-quality zinc supplements. You can get zinc from your diet, meat is an excellent source of zinc, but if you happen to be a vegetarian, it is better that you start taking zinc supplements to boost your testosterone level in your body.
